How to find textbooks cheap
|
ASU students are headed back to school, and they can't go to class without books. Daphne says don't pay full price, and shows you how to get books at up to half-off.
...
I decided to do some shopping to save your some money so you can spend your money on other things.
...
I compared the prices of several books. I check out the ASU bookstores, and several websites to see who will give you the best bang for your buck. The site I liked the most is GetCheapBooks.com. This site compared the price of books from dozens of other websites. Even better you can click which college you are attending, your class, and it will tell you which books you need. You can even sell your books on this site.

Alternatives to Buying Textbooks
|
A new quarter means a brand new schedule and new stresses, including the stress of buying new books. Now, to increase the stress of having to spend extra money on textbooks, prices have risen.
"I dread buying books each quarter because it seems like I pay more every time," said communication major Mallory McKean.
Wholesale prices of college textbooks have risen nearly 40 percent in the past five years said The National Association of College Bookstores. Such facts have provoked students to seek a different means of purchasing their books.
"The way to beat the rise is by comparison shopping, and that is where we come in," said Jonathan Miller of GetCheapBooks.com.
GetCheapBooks.com is a leading online price comparison shopping site for undergraduate and graduate textbooks. A student can search the website's database of online book vendors by price, course and university.

Online retailers offer options for students unhappy with the book prices at their university.
Getcheapbooks.com allows people to search for books by title, author, keyword or ISBN.
The site then gives the student a list of online stores that carry the book and show the corresponding prices.
A Getcheapbooks.com search for a paperback edition of Criminology found 10 stores that sold the book used at prices
ranging from $38.95 on eBay.com to $82.90 on Amazon.ca.

Online bookstores could be wave of future
|
GetCheapBooks.com is a Web site designed to assist students with comparison shopping for new and used textbooks.
"Over 200,000 unique visitors came to the site in the month of January 2006," said Jonathan Miller, founder of GetCheapBooks.com. The site offers price comparisons of about 15 different vendors, including Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com and Ecampus.com.
Users can search GetCheapBooks.com by university or book title to find books for specific classes. GetCheapBooks.com has over 5,000 registered users, but it does not require users to register for an account to use GetCheapBooks.com.
The site compares the item price, shipping price, condition and availability of the textbook. Users then choose to purchase the book directly from the vendor or through GetCheapBooks.com.
The company claims to help students save up to 40 percent off retail prices. Efollet.com, the online bookstore linked to the University of North Florida Bookstore, lists a used copy of Lial, Hornsby and Schneider’s College Algebra for $85.25. GetCheapBooks.com lists the same book for $55.25 from Half.com, a savings of about 35 percent.
. . . . .
Students can also sell used textbooks on GetCheapBooks.com. The site assists students with selecting the best selling option. Selling back to the vendor is fast, but peer-to-peer selling can earn about 40 percent more money, according to the Web site.

Online shoppers save on textbooks this spring
|
But as the Proctors learned, you can do better than the bookstore, even for used books. The same used textbook that Marianna bought costs $36.95 on Amazon.com.
Other websites such as, Getcheapbooks.com, Ecampus.com and Directtextbook.com also offer used texts for less.
How? Because there is no middleman. The bookstore buys its used texts from students, who often will happily accept any cash offer. That way, the store makes much of its profit off the sale of used books.
